the design and construction of a shipping container home that complies with code AND remains transportable...

This, believe it or not, is a transportable 4 bedroom home...

It is made from shipping containers.... and is designed to be fabricated and then transported wherever needed, not built on site as most others are done.

Whilst container homes are not new, what IS new is that we overcame the design and structural challenges required to keep the 4 bedroom 3 bathroom home TRANSPORTABLE whilst including luxury and space. It meant we had to overcome waterproofing between containers once delivered to site, how to connect high voltage power circuits pre-laid within each container, how to overcome plumbing set out requirements within a transportable unit, how to overcome sheetrock joins between containers, how to set out HVAC circuits and pipe work among many, many other engineering and transport compliance issues.

Usually, new homes are built around a small number of containers, with most of the structure for open spaces built on site.

This home was carefully designed to be delivered with all but connections and soft finishes to be done on site. It truly is UNIQUE…..

Reinforcement of openings.

When a shipping container is cut, the structural integrity of the wall is removed. In order to recover the strength and stiffness of the container, the openings were each welded with steel plate around the openings and braced.

Testing of wall cladding

In order to remain transportable, cladding methods, products and their fixing details were trialled from all over the world, together with window / door opening waterproofing methods, roof cladding and electrical connections across individual containers.

Application of finishes

The completion of the internal finishes included the design of bulkheads and bump outs to conceal HVAC and electrical requirements, along with a simple solution to the onsite joining of individual containers sourced from within the marine industry.
