Giving new life and extending this tired 1930’s home

A very tired and neglected 1930's period home had seen many owners live in and love the house without paying much attention to maintenance.

The complete remodel and extension to the home proposed to add bedrooms, an extra bathroom, relocate the kitchen from the central walkway, create a split level extension in sympathy with the sloping plot, install a pool, alfresco area and relocate/extend the carport.

This style of home often has an enclosed bump out under the main roof across the back of house and usually contains the restroom and laundry.

In this case we used the central kitchen location that was acting as an obstruction in the center of the walk through as an entry area to the lower part of the new home and the new upper part at the same level.

The existing second bedroom became the attached bathroom and the existing bathroom became the walk in closet.  By realigning the entry and walls to these bedrooms we created a master 'suite'.  This feature is not normally found in older period homes.

The exterior to the front was retained but the front door was relocated and the carport extended and reworked to allow better access.  The walls were then stuccoed and painted to modernize the look whilst still retaining the heritage and character of the home.

The roof was replaced completely, as were gutters and down splashes etc.
